Shalom Temple Sholom,

Shanah Tova to you all. I hope you had a relaxing summer, and are ready to face the fun and excitement of the New (Academic) Year.   Summer is a time to connect with friends and family, catch up on that much-needed sleep, and recharge your batteries.   As the new year approaches, we have a new level of excitement at Temple Sholom of Ontario.

First and foremost, we have Zari Sussman as our Rabbi and Spiritual Leader. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Rabbi Sussman to begin our work together.   She brings a refreshing level of enthusiasm and excitement to our congregation. I look forward to working collaboratively with Rabbi Sussman, to further create an outstanding educational program for our children, and all of the families.   Welcome to Temple Sholom, Rabbi.

During July and August, Jeremy, Zoe, and I met to further develop our program. Together, we examined all aspects of the curriculum, with the single goal of creating truly dynamic and engaging units and lessons for our students.   The overall theme for this year is T’filah. In all of our classes, we will focus on many prayers the students encounter during Erev Shabbat and Shabbat Morning worship. The goal is to help all learners develop personal meaning, understanding, and interpretation, while also working toward decoding and reading each prayer. Additionally, we will continue to study and experience each of the holidays, Torah  “stories and lessons,” and smaller units of study, which will provide for our students a rich and actively engaging learning experience.

A personal goal was seeing the formation of an Education Committee at Temple Sholom. I am pleased to announce that Sharon Borenstein has agreed to lead this group of individuals, whose sole purpose is to aid in the development of a quality educational program. Todah Raba Sharon. I look forward to working with you.   Our first meeting was held in August, where the discussion focused on the goals for the school, the approaches each of the teachers will take in meeting the goals, and what is needed for all teachers and students to be successful. If you would like to be a part of this important team of volunteers, please contact Sharon.

Mark your calendars now. The 2017-2018 (5778) School Years begins Sunday, September 10, 2017 at 9:30 AM. In the mail (or on the Synagogue’s website) you will be receiving all Registration Forms to enroll your children in our school. If you have any questions, please call the office, and we will gladly help in any way possible.   Also, a special Parent Meeting/Orientation will take place on Sunday, September 17 at 10:00 AM in the Sanctuary, at the conclusion of our morning T’fliah. At this meeting, all procedures will be discussed.

Finally, from the Feldman Family to you, we wish you a Shanah Tovah. May 5778 be filled with Joy, Happiness, and Good Health.

Steve Feldman
