It’s official…Summer is over! It’s now time to dust off the backpacks, take advantage of the “Back to School” sales, purchase new clothes, and gear up for the start of the new school year. I hope you had ample opportunities to travel, spend lots of time with family and friends, relax at home, and recharge your batteries. Welcome Back to School.

Some months ago, during one of the many brainstorming sessions I had with Rabbi Mattis and Stefanie, we discussed the need to create a learning experience geared for the youth of our community, focusing on Shabbat. After much discussion and planning, “Hezyonot” was creat- ed. These classes offer a unique Shabbat experience geared specifically for children between the ages of 5-17. During our first three sessions, we explored The Meaning of Shabbat, Kabbalat Shabbat, and the valued tradition of Storytelling. Our final meeting occurred in late August, with the celebration of Havdalah, followed by our children enjoying a Shabbaton overnight at the Synagogue, where we sang songs, enjoyed ice cream sundaes, a movie and popcorn…and then sleep. Yes…the kids did sleep for a few hours. In the morning, we prepared pancakes, scrambled eggs, and KOSHER bacon and sausage. The time spent together was meaningful, engaging, and FUN. Look for information following the High Holidays for when our classes will resume. The classes occur during Shabbat Morning services from 11:00AM-12:00 PM, under the leadership of Jeremy Schiff and myself.

In addition to our new Shabbat morning program, much work was completed during the summer to ensure that our children receive the best educational learning experience possible. We are working toward making our Sunday morning T’filah is increasingly meaningful for our stu- dents. Additionally, we will be integrating Hebrew Through Harmony, which combines Siddur/Prayer instruction with music. Jeremy, Zoe, Rabbi, and I are working diligently to make this program accessible and exciting to all of our students.

Big News…At the August, 2016 Board of Directors meeting, a suggestion was presented that Temple Sholom change the days of instruction from Sunday/Tuesday to Sunday/Wednesday. This enables more of our current and perspective members to enroll their children in our educational program. So, beginning with the 2016-2017 (5777) School Year, school will be in session on Sunday mornings (9:30 AM-12:00 PM) and Wednesday afternoons (4:15 PM-6:15 PM), and twice monthly on Shabbat mornings (11:00 AM-12:00 PM). In the coming weeks, you will be receiving registration information. Please make your calendars: School begins Sunday, September 11, 2016 at 9:30. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to another exciting and successful year at Temple Sholom.

In closing, and on a personal note, on behalf of Jeremy, Zoe, and myself, I wish you and your family L’Shanah Tova. May 5777 be a sweet and prosperous year, May you be inscribed in the Book of Life, for you and your family.

Remember…Together We Can Make a Difference. B’Shalom
