About the event

We will continue our study of Yiddish Literature in translation, from Irving Howe and Eliezer Greenberg, A Treasury of Yiddish Stories.

.

In class it appeared members did not like the Ostropolier stories, so we will not do another story like that.  Instead, I’ve added another serious story by Sholem Asch.

Please read the stories ahead of time!  They’re too long to read in class, but they are considerably shorter than the story we read last week.

(1)  J. Singer, “Repentance”  8 pages

(2)  Sholem Asch, “A Quiet Garden Spot” 5 pages

Copies are attached to this email.

Please note:  Unfortunately, the online copy of the Howe-Greenberg book has missing pages in I. J. Singer’s “Repentance” story.   When I merged them, the full file of Singer’s “Repentance” turned out to be too big to send by email.

So this email gives you a pdf file of the story - with the first two pages missing - together with a separate file for each of the missing pages.

You can put it all together!  I have full confidence in you.
