About the event

Judaic Studies

Next session: Thursday, November 16, 2023 @ 7:30pm

After our interesting and stimulating  discussion of Chapters 1 and 2 of the Book of Job, we will continue with Chapter 3 and as much of chapters 4-5 as we can cover on Thursday, November 16, 7:30 PM on Zoom.  Here’s the Zoom link:

What comes next in chapters 3-5: Job’s lament, and the first “consolation” from one of his friends.  You don’t have to read ahead of time, of course, but if you haven’t read the introductory chapters 1-2, skimming them before class would be valuable.

Here are three ways to get the texts we’ll be discussing:

First, I’m attaching two PDFs to this email.  One contains chapters 1-3 of Job, and the other contains chapters 4-5.  These are downloaded from the Sefaria website.

Second, here’s a link to the whole book of Job on the Sefaria website itself if you prefer to read it that way:

https://www.sefaria.org/Job.1?lang=bi

Third,  you’ll find the Book of Job in any Bible you have access to.

And, if you want to read about Job from a well-regarded Jewish source, here’s a link to a short article from “My Jewish Learning.” https://www.myjewishlearning.com/article/the-book-of-job/

Of course there’s an immense literature on Job that you can tap into on your own.

Looking forward to seeing you on Thursday the 16th.  Please join us!
